14. Does the DSS take back all my benefits?

The answer is that the insurance company have to repay benefits out of any settlement.  Your lawyer will advise what is involved.  All claims are registered with the government body known as the CRU (Compensation Recovery Unit).  They also reclaim from insurance companies costs of hospital treatment after road traffic accidents.  This does not affect you.

15. How do I know what sort of lawyer to go to?

One that has experience in personal injury claims.  You can check from their website or a legal guide (Chambers or Legal 500 or see if they are members of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) or Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS)).

16. When I hear that my case has settled how long will it take for me to receive payment?

Sometimes insurance companies pay in two to four weeks.  However, there can be complications particularly in complex cases where payment may not be made for around eight to twelve weeks or longer.

17. Can I claim again in the future if there are complications with my medical condition?

Generally speaking NO.  Unless at the time of settlement a special arrangement is reached because you might have a deterioration in the future there is a full and final settlement of the claim.
